Form 1099-DIV is used by banks and other financial institutions to report dividends and other distributions to taxpayers and to the IRS. If you were paid dividend income, you may have received a Form 1099-DIV. Enter your information according to the form you were issued. If you received more than one Form 1099-DIV, enter each one separately. If you did not receive a form, you can still tell us about your dividend income here.

How to enter Form 1099-DIV
To enter information for Form 1099-DIV:
- Go to Federal Taxes.
- Click Review.
- Click I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- Enter 1099DIV in the search box and add 1099-DIV – Dividend Income.
- Enter your information and click Save.
If you are not eligible to claim the Foreign Tax Credit without filing Form 1116, information from lines 7 and 8 of Form 1099-DIV is reported on the Form 1116 screen. Otherwise:
- Enter payee data on the 1099-DIV screen.
- After entering information for boxes 1 – 4, click Next.
- Enter any data for lines 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, and 13, and click Next.
- Enter applicable state information and click Next.
- The question Was any of the income you reported earned from a foreign country? appears. Choose Yes.
- If you are eligible to claim the Foreign Tax Credit without filing Form 1116, select Yes. You can then enter information for lines 7 and 8.
