Overview

Alabama taxpayers have the option to make a voluntary $1 contribution to either the Democratic or Republican political party’s election campaign fund. This is available to both individual and joint filers.

If you make a voluntary contribution to this fund, it will increase your tax by the amount of the contribution. The total amount entered in this field cannot exceed $2 for a married couple filing a joint return or $1 for all other filers.

How to Elect the Donation in the Software

To make this election during Alabama state return preparation, follow these steps:

1. Click on the State Taxes in the left-hand menu.
2. Select I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
3. Open the drop list for Alabama.
4. Click on the General tab.
5. Select 40 – Income Tax Return to open the form.
6. Under the Alabama Election Campaign section, use the drop list to select your political party choice for the Taxpayer and/or Spouse.
7. Click Save to apply your selection.
