Wisconsin – Schedule PS – Private School Tuition Deduction

Overview 

Wisconsin offers a deduction for private school tuition paid for qualifying children enrolled in private elementary or secondary schools. To claim this benefit, you must complete WI – Schedule PS (Private School Tuition) on your Wisconsin return. 

What Is the Private School Tuition Deduction? 

The Private School Tuition Deduction allows Wisconsin taxpayers to reduce taxable income for amounts paid for tuition to qualifying private schools. 

  • Maximum deduction per student (2024): 
  • $4,000 for each elementary school student (K–8) 
  • $10,000 for each high school student (9–12) 
  • Eligible expenses: Tuition paid for a dependent child to attend a private school located in Wisconsin. 
  • Ineligible expenses: Room and board, supplies, uniforms, athletic fees, or other non-tuition costs. 

Who Qualifies 

You may claim this deduction if: 

  • You paid tuition on behalf of your dependent child to attend an eligible private school in Wisconsin. 
  • The school provides elementary or secondary education (kindergarten through grade 12). 
  • You have receipts or other proof of payment for tuition. 

How to Report 

  1. Navigate to the State Taxes section on the left-hand side of the screen. 
  1. Click the link: I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
  1. In the dropdown menu, select Wisconsin
  1. Click on the General tab. 
  1. Click on Schedule PS – Private School Tuition to open the form. 
  1. Enter all applicable information.  
  1. Click Save once complete.
