What Is This Screen?
The CO – Tax Return Comparison screen allows you to enter key data points from your prior and current year Colorado state returns. This comparison helps identify major changes in income, deductions, and taxes owed—useful for understanding filing differences or for planning future tax years.
This screen is entirely optional and does not affect your actual tax return.
Why Use This Screen?
You may want to fill out this screen if you:
- Need to compare your 2023 and 2024 Colorado returns side by side
- Are trying to understand a refund or balance due difference
- Want to calculate or review changes in effective tax rate or marginal rate
- Are working with a tax professional or financial planner who needs a side-by-side view
Information You’ll Need to Enter
You’ll be entering values for both 2023 and 2024 in the following categories:
Income
- Gross Income
- Additions and Subtractions
- Exemptions
- Standard and Itemized Deductions
- Total Deductions
- Taxable Income
- Actual State Income
Taxes
- State Income Tax
- Local Taxes
- Use Tax
- Contributions
Payments
- Income Tax Withheld
- Estimates & Extension Payments
- Underpayment Penalty
- Overpayment Applied to Next Year
- Refund
- Balance Due
- Marginal Tax Rate
- Effective Tax Rate
You can also select your filing status for each year, and optionally check a box to prevent these values from being pulled into your 2025 return.
How to Add the CO – Tax Return Comparison Screen
- Go to the State Taxes section.
- Click I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- Select Colorado from the dropdown menu.
- Click the Other tab.
- Choose CO – Tax Return Comparison.
- Enter as much or as little of the 2023 and 2024 data as you want.
- Click Save when finished.
