Overview
In some cases, New Mexico may require you to upload supporting PDF documents (such as certificates, explanations, or credit documentation) with your PIT return. If you are not prompted elsewhere in your return to upload a PDF, but need to do so, use the NM – Required Binary/PDF Attachments screen to upload the document.
When to Use This Form
You should use this form if:
- You were specifically instructed by the software or a New Mexico form (e.g., NSMD Credit, PIT-CR) to upload a supporting PDF.
- You do not see another prompt to upload the file directly in the return.
- You need to include a certification, waiver request, legal document, or credit certificate.
Note: Do not upload standard income forms (W-2, 1099, etc.) unless specifically requested.
Managing Your Attachments
- After saving the form, go to the “My Return” tab on the left sidebar.
- Click “Manage Attachments” to:
- View, edit, or delete existing attachments.
- Verify that the PDFs are properly linked before submitting your return.
How to Report
- Navigate to the State Taxes section on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click the link: I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- In the dropdown menu, select New Mexico.
- Click on the Credits tab.
- Select NM – Required Binary/PDF Attachments to open the screen.
- For each document you wish to attach, enter the following:
- Reference Source: A brief internal note to identify which part of the return the attachment supports.
- Description: A clear and concise label.
- Filename: A short, descriptive name for the PDF file (must end with .PDF).
- After entering all required data, scroll to the bottom of the form and click Save.
- Upload the document. Ensure the file is in .PDF format and is labeled clearly.
Example:
- Reference Source: NSMD Credit Certificate – Form Schedule A
- Description: Solar Credit Certificate from EMNRD
- Filename: NSMD_Credit_Certificate.PDF
Best Practices
- Do not upload documentation unless you are specifically required or prompted to do so.
- If possible, combine related pages into one PDF per upload to keep your filing clean.
- Do not upload encrypted or password-protected files.
- Keep individual file sizes reasonable (under 5MB if possible).
