General Information

This screen is used to enter residency details for Part-Year and Nonresident taxpayers in the District of Columbia. It is located under the DC General tab.

  • Filing Status – Select the appropriate filing status from the drop-down list. Options include:
    • Single 
    • Married Filing Jointly 
    • Married Filing Separately 
    • claimed by someone else 
    • Married Filing Separately on the same return 
    • Head of Household 
    • Qualifying Widower 
    • Registered Domestic Partners Filing Jointly 
    • Registered Domestic Partners Filing Separately on the same return
  • Part-Year Residents
    • Dates of Residency – Enter the start and end dates of DC residency.
    • Note: A date before 01/01/2024 or after 12/31/2024 may cause a file .
  • Statutory Resident – Enter the aggregate number of days the taxpayer maintained an abode in DC.
  • Part-Year Itemized Deductions – Enter deductions on the DC Deductions and Payments/Adjustments screen.
  • Nonresident – If filing as a nonresident, mark the checkbox. 
    • Nonresidents must paper file. 
    • Nonresidents do not file a D-40 return. 
    • Use Form D-40B to request a .

Green fields are override fields, which replace amounts otherwise calculated or imported.

DC – 2441: Child and Dependent Care Expenses for Part-Year Residents

This section is required only for Part-Year Residents of DC. It is also located under the DC General tab.

  • Qualifying Dependents Section – Enter dependent information on the Dependents screen.
  • DC Credit Section – Provide dependent care information on Form 2441 before making adjustments here.
  • Dependent Care Expenses Section – For each provider, enter:
    • Provider’s SSN/EIN
    • Amount paid while a DC Resident
    • Relationship (if provider is an individual)
    • Dates of care (From/To fields)

Multiple providers may be entered in this section. 

How to Add These Screens

  1. Click on the State Taxes section on the left-hand side of the screen.
  2. Click the link “I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.”
  3. Use the drop list to select District of Columbia.
  4. Under the General tab, select Part Year and Nonresident Information screen and 2441 – Child and Dependent Care Expenses for Part-Year Residents screen.
  5. Complete the screens.
  6. Click Save.
