Overview
If you need more time to file your Columbus, Ohio IR-25 individual city income tax return, you may request an extension by submitting the Columbus Extension form. This form must be printed and mailed to the Columbus Income Tax Division, as electronic filing is not available for this extension request.
Who Should File a Columbus Extension?
You should file this form if:
- You are required to file Form IR-25 with the City of Columbus, and
- You are unable to file your return by the due date, typically April 15, and
- You need additional time (up to 6 months) to prepare and file your city return.
Note: Filing this form does not extend your time to pay. You must estimate and pay any tax due when submitting the extension.

How to Report
- Navigate to the State Taxes section on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click the link: “I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.”
- In the dropdown menu, select Ohio.
- Click on the Columbus tab.
- Select Columbus Extension to open the screen.
- Enter all applicable information.
- Click ‘Save‘ once complete.
Note: The form cannot be e-filed and must be paper-filed.
