Overview
The Wounded Warrior Caregivers Credit is a nonrefundable income tax credit offered to certain New Jersey resident caregivers who provide unpaid care to a qualifying disabled veteran. This credit helps recognize and support the financial and personal sacrifice made by family caregivers.
To claim the credit, you must complete the Wounded Warrior Caregivers Credit form as part of your NJ-1040 filing.
Who is Eligible for the Credit?
You may claim this credit if:
- You are a New Jersey resident, and
- You provide care and support for a relative who is a:
- Veteran,
- Honorably discharged, and
- 100% permanently and totally disabled as certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and
- You are not compensated for the care you provide.
Note: The credit is nonrefundable and may be claimed once per qualifying veteran, up to $675 per tax year.
How to Report
- Navigate to the State Taxes section on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click the link: I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- In the dropdown menu, select New Jersey.
- Click on the General tab.
- Select Wounded Warrior Caregivers Credit to open the screen.
- Enter all applicable information.
- Click Save once complete.
