Overview
This error occurs when a Maryland state tax refund is entered on a 1099-G form instead of the correct screen. Maryland only allows unemployment information to be reported on a 1099-G.
If a state tax refund is listed on the 1099-G form, you must either:
- Remove any state refund entries from the 1099-G and enter only unemployment information, or
- Delete the 1099-G form if the refund is the only item listed.
To include your state tax refund in your return, enter it on the State and Local Refunds screen instead.
How to Fix It
- Review your 1099-G forms in the program.
- Remove any entries for state tax refunds from the 1099-G form.
- If the 1099-G only includes a state refund, delete the form entirely.
- To report your refund correctly, go to the State and Local Refunds screen and enter the information there.
