This screen is used to report general Kansas return information, including disability or veteran exemptions, standard deduction adjustments, and donations to Kansas-based causes. It also includes late payment penalties and state-specific tax adjustments. 

Entry Fields 

Top Section

  • Whose form is this? – Select Taxpayer, , or Joint
  • Disabled Veteran Personal Exemption – Enter the total exemption amount if claiming this benefit. 
  • Name or address change – Check if this return reflects a name or address change. 
  • Disability or Blindness for the full year – Check if applicable. 
  • K-40H/PT Screen link – Click to enter date disabled/blind if applicable. 

Part-Year and Nonresident (optional if not applicable)

These fields support part-year or nonresident filing and are not required for full-year residents.

Standard Deduction Worksheet (for dependents of another)

Earned income – Enter earned income if the taxpayer is a of another person. 

This is a modification field, shown in blue. It adjusts the standard deduction.

Deductions, Credits, Tax, Payments

  • Payments made on the K-120S – Enter amounts previously paid via Form K-120S. 
  • Interest / Penalty – number of months late – Enter the number of months late if filing past the due date. 
  • Chickadee Checkoff – Donation to the non-game wildlife fund. 
  • Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels Program – Donation entry. 
  • Breast Cancer Research Fund – Donation entry. 
  • Military Emergency Relief Fund – Donation entry. 
  • Kansas Hometown Heroes Fund – Donation entry. 
  • Kansas Creative Arts Industry Fund – Donation entry. 
  • Local School District Contribution Fund – Donation entry. 
  • Kansas Historic Site Contribution Fund – Donation entry. 
  • Historic Site Number – Select from drop-down if contributing to a specific historic site. 

Modification Field 

Earned income under “Standard Deduction Worksheet” is a modification field. It adjusts, rather than overrides, income flowing from other parts of the return. 

How to Add This Screen 

  1. Click on the State Taxes section on the left-hand side of the screen.
  2. Click the link I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
  3. Use the drop-down to select Kansas.
  4. Under the General tab, click KS – Individual Income Tax.
