General Information
The DC – Deductions and Payments screen allows you to enter deductions, apply credits, select refund options, and manage payment preferences for your DC individual return (Form D-40).
You can use this screen to:
- Enter the DC portion of federal itemized deductions (for part-year residents only)
- Enter DC-specific amounts for:
– State/local income or sales tax
– State/local real estate tax
– Other deductions - Override the calculated DC deduction amount from the worksheet
- Claim the Credit for Child and Dependent Care Expenses or Property Tax Credit from DC Schedule H
- Choose a refund option other than direct deposit
- Opt to receive Form 1099G electronically
- Enable electronic signature for your return
- Force the D-40P payment voucher
- Adjust the reported refund amount from DCWK_REF line A1
- Elect to receive the DC EITC refund in 12 monthly payments
Note: Fields highlighted in green are override fields, which replace amounts calculated from or transferred by other areas of the return.
Note: Fields highlighted in blue are modification fields, which apply adjustments to figures that flow from elsewhere on the site.
Note: Choosing to receive the DC Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in monthly payments may affect eligibility for federal benefits such as SNAP. For more information, contact the Department of Human Services at (202) 807-0405 or dhs@dc.gov.
How to Add
- Click on the State Taxes section on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click the link I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- Click on the dropdown menu for District of Columbia.
- Select the General tab.
- Click on the DC – Deductions and Payments screen to add and open the form.
- Complete all applicable fields and elections.
- Click Save.
