General Information
The DC – Income Tax Return screen is used to set specific options for your District of Columbia individual return (Form D-40). Entries made here can override information from your federal return and apply to residency, income sources, and certain adjustments.
This screen allows you to:
- Set filing status specific to the DC return
- Enter part-year residency dates or statutory residency status
- Enter override income amounts (for amended returns only)
- Include additions to income such as franchise tax
- Report subtractions from income, including:
– Part-year income earned outside DC
– Taxable state and local refunds
– Social Security or Tier 1 Railroad Retirement income
– Income taxed on DC franchise/fiduciary return
– Survivor benefits from DC/Federal government
Note: This screen is only needed if you’re amending a return, are a part-year resident, or need to override federal entries for DC purposes.
Note: State amended returns cannot be filed through our software, but you can use our software to generate the forms needed for your paper filing.
