Overview
If you need to override your filing status for Alabama purposes from what you have selected on the Federal return this can be done directly in the Alabama data entry.
If you were a part year resident of Alabama at any point during the tax year, you will need to enter in your residency dates in the Alabama data entry.
Reporting Part-Year Residency Dates
To enter in the part-year dates, follow the steps below:
- Go to the State taxes section.
- Select I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- In the drop list, select Alabama.
- Select the General tab.
- Select the 40 – Income Tax Return – Pg 2 screen.
- Enter the From and To dates under the Enter the dates you resided in Alabama section under Part IV.
- Click Save to apply changes.
Complete Part IV with the dates only when I lived in multiple states has been selected as the Resident State on the Name & Address screen.
