General Information

If you’ve already e-filed your federal return through 1040.com, you can still your state return separately.

Note: You must use the same account you used to file your federal return.

When you begin the filing process, you’ll see both your federal and state returns marked as ready to file. To file only the state return, uncheck the box next to the federal return by clicking No thanks, I don’t want to e-file my federal return. This will remove the federal return from the e-file process.

Disbursement Options

Even though you’re not filing a federal return again, the system will still ask how you want your federal (or balance due) handled. Just select an option (such as mailing a check or choosing direct deposit). These choices won’t affect your return since the federal portion won’t be filed.
