IL – Student Loan Adjustment Error (SchILNR Step 3 Line 5) 

This error appears when the Illinois return is missing required state-specific student loan adjustment information. To resolve it: 

  1. Click on Federal Taxes in the left-hand menu. (If you’re on mobile or your window is minimised, click the three horizontal lines in the top left to expand the menu). 
  2. Under the Review section, click I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form. 
  3. In the search box that appears, select the box labelled General.
  4.    Choose Less Common Adjustments. This will add the adjustment form to your return. 
  5.  Scroll to the bottom of the form and click I want to see the state options for these adjustments. 
  6. Select Illinois from the state menu that appears.
  7. Click Save at the bottom of the page. This will ensure the necessary data flows to SchILNR and resolves the error.
