KS – Credit Summary Screen Guide

Article: 50388

Overview

This screen is used to enter Kansas state credits that are listed across various Kansas Schedule K forms. Most credits are nonrefundable unless explicitly marked otherwise.

This screen does not calculate eligibility—you should only enter credits here if you have supporting documentation or a calculated carryforward from a prior year.

Entry Fields

Each line represents a specific Kansas credit. Fields are grouped into:

  • Nonrefundable Credit – Enter the amount to apply against tax liability (if applicable)
  • Refundable Credit – Enter the amount eligible for (if applicable)

Some credits include only one field; others (like the Disabled Access or Adoption Credit) allow both refundable and nonrefundable portions to be entered.

Examples of included credits:

  • Apprenticeship Credit (Sch K-24)
  • Historic Preservation Credit (Sch K-35)
  • Research and Development Credit (Sch K-53, carry forward only)
  • Venture and Local Seed Capital Credit (Sch K-55)
  • Community Service Contribution Credit (Sch K-60)
  • Targeted Employment Credit (Sch K-69)
  • Electric Cogeneration Facility Credit (Sch K-83)
  • Kansas Pregnancy Resource Credit (Sch K-94)
    And many more.

Refer to Kansas Schedule K instructions to determine whether a credit is refundable, carryforward-only, or limited by income or tax liability.

Override Fields

All entry fields on this screen are override fields (highlighted in green). These entries replace any calculations or amounts that may flow from other parts of the return or imported carryforwards.
