Overview
West Virginia allows taxpayers to upload certain supporting documents electronically when filing their state return. This is done through the WV – Optional Binary PDF Attachments form.
What Is the Optional Binary PDF Attachments Form?
The Optional Binary PDF Attachments form is a way to securely provide supporting documentation to the West Virginia State Tax Department when filing electronically.
- It is primarily used for items that require proof or additional verification.
- Most taxpayers do not need to use this form unless the state requests documentation.
When Should You Use This Form?
You may need to upload PDF attachments if:
- The West Virginia State Tax Department requests original documentation.
- You are required to submit special support documents that cannot be entered directly into the tax return.
- You are providing documentation for credits, deductions, or adjustments that require validation.
Note: Most income and withholding information do not require you to submit original documents.
