Overview
If you are a Wisconsin resident who earned income in another state and paid taxes there, you may qualify for a credit to avoid being taxed twice on the same income. This credit is reported on the WI – Credit for Net Tax Paid to Another State (Schedule OS).
What Is the Credit for Taxes Paid to Another State?
The credit helps prevent double taxation when:
- You are a Wisconsin resident.
- You earned income outside Wisconsin.
- That other state also taxed the same income.
The credit reduces your Wisconsin income tax liability by giving you credit for taxes already paid to another state.
Note: This applies only to income taxes paid to another state—not to property tax, sales tax, or other state/local taxes.
