Overview

In January 2025, the IRS distributed automatic Economic Impact Payments (EIPs)—commonly referred to as stimulus payments—to eligible individuals who had not previously claimed these funds on their 2021 tax return.

For those who did not file in 2021, eligibility to claim EIPs remained open until the April 15, 2025, filing deadline; with that deadline having passed, taxpayers are no longer able to claim EIP amounts for 2021 returns they file, moving forward.
