IA – Tuition and Textbook Credit

Overview

This screen is used to enter qualifying tuition and textbook expenses for dependents attending an accredited Iowa K–12 school. The credit is available per and reduces the taxpayer’s Iowa state tax liability.

Credit Eligibility

  • The credit is available to taxpayers who have one or more dependents attending kindergarten through 12th grade in an accredited Iowa school.
  • The school must be accredited under section 256.11, not operated for profit, and must adhere to the U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • The credit amount is 25% of the first $1,000 paid per dependent for qualified expenses.

How to Add This Screen

  1. Click on the Federal Taxes section on the left-hand side of the screen.
  2. Click on Dependents and open the screen for the qualifying dependent.
  3. Click I’d like to see the advanced options for this dependent.
  4. Click State only information.
  5. Select Iowa and enter the eligible expense amounts.
