Article: 50185
Form 3903 is used to calculate the deduction for qualified moving expenses incurred in connection with the commencement of employment at a new principal place of work. To be eligible for this deduction, the new workplace must be located outside the United States or its possessions, and the taxpayer must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.
Moving expenses are deductible on the federal income tax return only if the taxpayer is a member of the Armed Forces on active duty and the move is due to a permanent change of station. Taxpayers who are not active-duty military personnel should complete this form solely for purposes of claiming a deduction on their state tax return, if applicable.
