Add Form 5695
To add Form 5695:
- Click Federal Taxes > Review > I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search a form.
- In the search bar, enter Form 5695.
- Click Add form beside Form 5695 – Residential Energy Credits.
- Once you have added the form, fill it out according to your situation, then click Save at the bottom of the screen.

Section A – Qualified Energy Efficient Improvements
If your improvements were for
- Cost of insulation or air sealing material or system
- Cost of the most expensive exterior door bought
- Cost of all other qualifying exterior doors
- Cost of exterior windows and skylights
Fill out the information in “Section A – Qualified Energy Efficient Improvements” only. Do not enter anything below the line Section B – Residential Energy Property Expenditures“.
Even if you’ve entered an address, you might still see an error. This happens not because the address is missing, but because no qualifying data is linked to that address.
If you only made Section A – Qualified Energy Efficient Improvements, the entire lower section of the page needs to be left blank.
Section B – Residential Energy Property Expenditures
If your improvements were for
- Cost of central air conditioners
- Cost of natural gas, propane, or oil water heaters
- Cost of natural gas, propane, or oil furnace or hot water boilers
- Cost of improvements to or replacement of panel boards, sub-panel boards, branch circuits, or feeders
- Any of the additional improvement listed at the bottom of the page
Fill out the information in Section B – Residential Energy Property Expenditures only. Do not enter anything above the line Section B – Residential Energy Property Expenditures.
If you have only made Section B – Residential Energy Property Expenditures, the entire upper section of the page needs to be left blank.
Errors
You will see error messages when reviewing your return if you have entered data into a section that does not apply to your situation. Only make entries in the fields that apply to you in the applicable section. If you do not have data for a given improvement (in the section that applies to you), leave that entry blank (do not enter 0).
- Only complete the section(s) relevant to your improvements. Entering data in both sections when only one applies can lead to errors.
- Ensure that address fields are completed only in the section that applies to your situation.
- Do not enter “0” in fields that do not apply to you. Leave them blank.
- Answer yes/no questions only in the applicable section.
DO NOT enter any data in the section that does not apply to your situation. This includes addresses, yes or no questions, and cost entries that are not applicable to the section for which you are claiming a credit.
