If on the federal Name and Address screen the resident state field is listed as I lived in multiple states, but you need the Alabama return to be a full year nonresident return, you must make the election in the Alabama data entry.

How to Force Alabama Form 40NR to Produce

To force Form 40NR to produce when on federal Name and Address the resident state is listed as a part-year resident can be elected in the Alabama data entry. Follow the steps below:

1. Go to the State taxes section.
2. Click on the Review tab on the left-hand side.
3. Select I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
4. In the drop list, select Alabama.
5. Select the General tab.
6. Click the 40NR – Income Tax Return – Pg 1 screen to add and open the form.
7. Select Force AL40NR return if resident state is “I lived in multiple states.”
8. Click Save to apply changes.
