Overview
If an Alabama return is required to be filed for the year following a taxpayer’s death, or if estimated tax payments must be reported but are not being generated due to the date of death entered on the Name and Address screen, you may manually force the calculation of estimated payments within the Alabama data entry section.
How to Force Alabama Estimated Tax Calculations for a Deceased Taxpayer
To make the election to force the Alabama estimated tax to be calculated for a deceased taxpayer, follow the steps below:
- Go to the State taxes section.
- Select I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- In the drop list, select Alabama.
- Select the General tab.
- Select the 40 – Income Tax Return screen.
- Select the Calculate [tax year] Alabama estimated tax when taxpayer is deceased check box.
- Click Save to apply changes.
