Extension Process

If the federal is filed and accepted, Arizona automatically grants you a 6-month state tax extension. If you do not file a federal tax extension or owe money, then you must fill out Form 204.

Payment Options

If you filed a federal extension but need to make a tax payment to Arizona, you can visit the AZ DOR website to see your options. https://aztaxes.gov/Home/PaymentIndividual/

Payments Made

To report the amount paid with the extension when filing your regular return, follow the steps below:

  1. On the left, click Federal Taxes then Review.
  2. Click the link I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
    • Alternatively, enter Extension in the search box and click Add form beside Amount Paid with Extension.

Click on the States tab and click the link Amount Paid with Extension to add and open the form.

  3. Check the box for All Extensions listed were previously filed; all amounts paid have been verified as correct, and all state and city tax returns are ready to be filed.
  4. Select Arizona in the State/City drop list and enter in the amount that you paid with the Arizona Form 204.
  5. Click Save.

The extension payment shows on either:
