General Information
The schedule allows entry of detailed information about each gift, including recipient details, gift value, exclusions, and any applicable deductions.
How to Enter 709A Information
- Go to the State Taxes section on the left-hand side.
- Click I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- Select Connecticut from the drop-down menu.
- Click the 709 tab.
- Fill out the form as it applies to your tax situation (see entries below).
- Save the form
What Is Reported on This Screen
Donor Selection
At the top of the screen, select whether the donor is the Taxpayer or Spouse.
If the gift is to be split between both, check the Split Gift with Spouse box.
Donor and Donee Information
- Gift to spouse: Check this if the recipient is the donor’s spouse.
- Donee Name and SSN: Enter the recipient’s name and Social Security Number.
- Relationship to Donor: Specify the relationship.
- Address, ZIP, City, and State: Enter the donee’s full address.
Gift Information
- Description: Briefly describe the gift.
- Basis: Enter the donor’s basis in the gifted property.
- Date: Enter the date the gift was made.
- Value: Enter the fair market value of the gift.
- Exclusion: Enter the applicable annual gift exclusion amount.
- Trust EIN / CUSIP: If applicable, enter the trust’s EIN or the security’s CUSIP number.
Deduction Information
- Marital Deduction: Check the box if the gift qualifies and enter the deduction amount.
- Charitable Deduction: Check the box if the gift was to a qualified charitable organization and enter the deduction amount.
Special Property Types
- QSTP: Check if the gift is to a Qualified State Tuition Program.
- QTIP Property: If this is Qualified Terminable Interest Property, check the corresponding boxes for QTIP and life estate election.
- Farmland: Check if the gift is valued as farmland.
Additional Fields
- Fair Market Value: Enter the current fair market value of the property.
- Additional Gift Tax Due: If any gift tax is due beyond exclusions or deductions, enter the amount.
