HI – Hawaii Form N-356 – Earned Income Tax Credit

Overview

Form N-356 is used to calculate and claim the Hawaii Earned Income , which is equal to 40% of the federal Earned Income Credit (EIC) claimed on your federal income .

The Hawaii EITC is refundable, meaning if the credit exceeds your Hawaii tax liability, the excess amount will be issued as a . In most cases, unused credits may be carried forward to future years, with one exception: credits from tax years 2018 through 2021 cannot be carried forward beyond 2024.

To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You filed a federal tax return and claimed the Earned Income Credit under IRC § 32.
  • You filed a Hawaii income tax return (Form N-11 or Form N-15) using the same filing status and dependents as reported on your federal return.

Add Form N-356

To add the Form N-356:

  1. Go to State Taxes.
  2. Click Review.
  3. Click I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
  4. From the drop list, select Hawaii.
  5. Go to the Credits tab.
  6. Locate and click on N356 – Earned Income Tax Credit to open the screen.
  7. Enter your information and click Save.
