Overview
If you removed or covered lead paint on a residential property in Massachusetts that was determined to contain dangerously elevated levels of lead, you may qualify for the Lead Paint Removal Credit. This credit helps reduce your state tax liability for the cost of certified de-leading or interim control efforts.
Eligibility
You may qualify if:
- You own or rent residential property in Massachusetts.
- The property has been certified as containing hazardous lead levels.
- You completed lead removal or containment work in accordance with Massachusetts Lead law.
- The work was performed by a licensed de-leader or conducted under authorized interim control measures.
- You have received a Letter of Compliance or Interim Control Certificate.
Both homeowners and tenants may claim the credit if they paid for qualified abatement work.
Credit Details
- Interim Control is eligible for up to $1,000 per unit.
- Full Compliance is eligible for up to $3,000, reduced by any interim control credit already claimed.
The credit is nonrefundable but can be carried forward for up to 7 years.
Add Schedule LP
To add Schedule LP:
- Go to State Taxes.
- Click I‘d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- Select Massachusetts.
- Click on the Credits tab.
- Click on Lead Paint Removal Credit to add and open the form.
- Enter your information and click Save.
