Site Security

is our highest priority. All data transferred between your computer and our server is protected using industry-standard encryption. Our privacy policies and practices are certified by TRUSTe®, a third-party company which verifies and certifies privacy programs.

Security Questions

Account security questions are used alongside your username and password to add an additional level of security, as mandated by the IRS. Unfortunately, if you do not remember the answers to the questions that you used to set up your account and have not already filed a return, you need to create a new account and start from the beginning.

Security questions are case sensitive.

If you already filed a return or are trying to access a prior-year return, you will need to request a transcript from the IRS.

Change Security Questions

To update your security questions:

  1. Log in to your account.

  2. Go to My Account.

  3. Click Security Center.

  4. Update your Security Questions and answers, as desired.

  5. When finished, click Save answers.

Two-Factor Authentication ()

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a method of providing additional security to your account, by providing you with a second form of account verification that is sent directly to you when you log into your account. It is sometimes referred to as multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Enable

During the account creation process, the site will prompt you to add 2FA to your account, after you have created your username and password, and provided answers to your account security questions.

To set up two-factor authentication for your account after it has already been created, you should follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account.

  2. Go to My Account.

  3. Click Security Center.

  4. Under Two-factor authentication, choose Configure two-factor authentication.

  5. Follow the prompts to enable two-factor authentication on your account.

Disable

Two-factor authentication can be disabled using the following process:

  1. Log in to your account.

  2. Go to My Account.

  3. Click Security Center.

  4. Under Two-factor authentication, choose Configure two-factor authentication > Disable two-factor authentication.
