Summary
If you made out-of-state purchases for use in Alabama and were not charged sales or use tax, you may owe Alabama Consumer Use Tax. This article outlines how to determine your liability and properly report it on your Alabama tax return. The total use tax owed will be calculated and carried to Alabama Schedule ATP – Part I, line 1.
How to Report It
You can report your use tax directly within the Alabama state data entry section of your tax return. Follow these steps:
- Go to the State taxes section.
- Click on the Review tab on the left-hand side.
- Select I’d like to see the forms I’ve filled out or search for a form.
- Select Alabama from the state drop list.
- Select the General tab.
- Click the Use Tax Worksheet screen to add and open the form.
- Complete the appropriate information.
- Click Save to apply changes.
