Overview
If you worked for multiple employers and contributed more than the maximum allowable amount to Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) in a tax year, you may be eligible for a refund of the excess contributions. To report this and claim a potential refund, you must complete the MA – Excess Paid Family and Medical Leave Contributions form on your Massachusetts return.
Generally, you should complete this form if:
- You had PFML contributions withheld by more than one employer, and
- The total amount withheld exceeds the annual limit set by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
This situation most commonly applies to taxpayers with multiple jobs or who changed employers during the tax year.
