Changing Direct Deposit – Post Filing

Article: 50003

Once you file the return, direct deposit information cannot be changed.

If you have entered incorrect routing (RTN) information, the deposit will generally bounce back to the IRS (and/or your state), and you’ll have to receive your by check instead.

If you used e-Collect to pay for your return from your refund, your fees would still be withheld from the refund, with the remainder being mailed to you from the IRS.

You can try to contact the IRS at 1 (800) 829-1040 and/or your state directly to see if they can update your direct deposit information on their end. The IRS may tell you to contact us, however, since this is a DIY filing site, we cannot update this information.
